A HISTORY OF HOSTELRY
The Elephant & Castle was built in the late 1700's, a coach house and inn serving the men who built the Dearne and Dove Canal. Overlooking the canal - now a haven for fish, water birds and wildlife - the Elephant sits on the Pennine Trail, with many hikers stopping for refreshments and enjoying the hospitality.
Over the decades it has come to enjoy a reputation for good quality food and ale, and since being taken over by Patricia and her family in 2010 has achieved amazing success - reaching the top of customer ratings tables including Trip Advisor and ThreeBestRated.
"Hi, I’m Patricia. My family and I have been residents of Hemingfield for over 45 years. We run the Elephant and Castle as a family using my experience in restaurant management, having worked for key companies such as Bradwell & Loseley and Bits & Pizza.
The Elephant and Castle represents a lifelong ambition to serve a fabulous choice of amazing home cooked meals in our home village - something we are passionate and proud of.
My dream was to host a restaurant that not only served outstanding food, but was somewhere that people could come and relax, enjoy the surroundings and feel at ease. We're truly humbled by the response we've had and are determined to keep on providing the same high quality of service."
